A Frick Chemistry Laboratory to Build

A Frick Chemistry Laboratory to BuildThere are many factors that come into play when you decide to build a science laboratory, and one of the most important is whether or not you're going to have a Frick Chemistry Laboratory. If you're new to science and building science projects on your own, or if you have previously built science labs but would like to do it again, then this may be the right blog for you.Frick Chemistry Laboratories is created by drilling a hole in the ground and creating a bridge. As you're building it, you will be able to connect the bridge to the Science Lab. Then, you will be able to set up the system in which all the lab equipment, the Student Station, and the Fermentation System are included with your science project. You can install those parts yourself, or you may need to hire a contractor to do it for you. This is one of the best things to use in science projects, because you will have everything that you need to get your project done. You'll also save mone y, as you won't have to hire a professional to build the Science Lab on your own.To begin, you need to determine where you are going to place your Science Lab. There are several things to consider, such as space utilization. If you don't want a science lab right next to your home, then you may want to consider the option of having your Science Lab in a basement.Remember that there are rules when it comes to using your Science Lab. If you install an electrical outlet in the Science Lab, then you may be breaking the rules, and if you install an outlet right in the middle of the Science Lab, you may also be breaking the rules. If you do break the rules, then you may be required to pay a fine, but it is important to find out what the rules are first. Also, a science lab will have to be built according to your construction laws. If you're building a science lab for yourself, you must abide by the federal building code. You should also make sure that the laws regarding this project are acc eptable to you. It's very important that you follow these rules, so that you can protect your home and to prevent the project from being rejected.Building a science lab is an excellent way to learn about science. Not only is it fun but it will help you understand science better. The Science Lab allows you to do experiments, make and test chemical compounds, and control your scientific process.

College Culture

College Culture Choosing a college based on strong academics is very important; however, there is a lot more to college than its national, academic rankings. Every college has its own unique culture, consisting of its academics, its geographic location and its student body. Its the vibe one gets from that college. There is nothing you can read or hear to fully understand a colleges culture. No one can tell you truly what its truly like, and how you will feel about it. You need to visit as often as you can. Some colleges are in isolated towns, and others are in the heart of big cities. Students at certain colleges tailgate for football games and paint their bodies, and other students go to the football games just to watch the band play. Some colleges offer a wide range of studies, and others specialize in certain fields. Essentially, the college you choose will be your home for four years. Similarly, do you always pick the most intelligent friends? If you could choose your own parents, would you opt to live with the most intelligent couple you could find? Your universitys intelligence is very important to your future success, but students should also select a college based on how happy they will be there. Visiting a college is the only way to find out its unique culture. It is very easy and affordable to schedule a college visit/walkthrough with a bubbly, overexcited tour guide. These, however, only give students a surface level understanding of the university. Students will receive extensive knowledge on how high every building is, who it was named after, when it was constructed, who the dean is, etc. This is all information that you are likely to immediately forget, assuming you actually cared to listen. College visits/walkthroughs with tour guides can be helpful. However, the best way to truly understand the culture of a college is by living there. Many colleges allow students to take short summer sessions. These summer sessions vary from college-to-college. However, most are three to five days worth of classes. Students will experience living in the dorms and eating the dining hall food. Also, students are likely to have roommates. These can be expensive; however, you can earn credits to that university. This is truly a unique way to gain an accurate perspective of what the college campus is like. If interested, students should attend these short summer sessions between their junior and senior years of high school. Another great way to find out the culture of a college is by visiting a friend, or a friends older sibling who is currently at the school you are interested in. Stay with them for a weekend. College kids love visitors. They will likely welcome you and show you what their college is all about. He/she will not be paid by the university to recruit freshmen. Rather, he/she will just be another college kid showing you how to have a great time at that college. He/she will introduce you to his/her friends and take you to the local coffee shops and restaurants. Essentially, selecting a college that fits your personality well is equally important as academic prestige. If you are miserable at an elite college, then your performance is likely to suffer as well. Also, you wont have the motivation to get involved in extra-curricular activities, which are important to your success.

How to Build a Home Gym on a College Students Budget

How to Build a Home Gym on a College Student's Budget Image via pixabay.com The Proper Space The key to any home gym is setting aside the appropriate amount of space. Although apartments and dorms have limited floor space, you can keep the main area of your bedroom open for an exercise or yoga mat (to remind yourself to work out) and store larger weights and equipment on a shelf or in your closet. Storing equipment away will help declutter whichever space you dedicate as your gym. Equipment Your equipment can range from a medicine ball to an elliptical depending on how much space you have to store your equipment and what exercises you are capable and willing to do. While you can get some cardio in by running across campus when you miss the bus, it’s important to exercise for at least 150 minutes each week, which breaks down to about 30 minutes of exercise five days out of the week. Exercising in a gym setting, whether it be at an on-campus gym or your home gym can help stimulate brain cell activity, according to the New York Times. Your weekly exercise plan should consist of moderate aerobic exercise to maintain your weight and reduce stress. However, if you would like to lose weight, gain muscle mass or just exercise more and then you can combine your aerobic activity with strength training. Strength-based exercises can vary from weight training or resistance training, or even a combination of the two. It’s important that you check with your primary care physician before starting any strenuous exercise plan. A routine physical can help determine any medical issues that could limit or deter types of exercises. Even if you don’t suspect yourself of having any limiting medical conditions, it is still wise to schedule a physical every one to three years. While your primary care physician may or may not be able to recommend exercise equipment for your desired plan, here is some common exercise equipment and their uses. Elliptical Machine Elliptical machines are an exceptional way to get some cardio in without actually running, for those of us who hate running or can’t run for medical reasons. Plus, elliptical machines also help to target your arms and core because you are actively moving your arms and abdomen as you pseudo-jog. While traditional ellipticals can cost thousands of dollars and take up precious space in an apartment, The Foldaway Full Body Elliptical is a great portable alternative. This specific elliptical does have arm attachments; however, they move up and down versus back and forth like a standard elliptical. The difference in motion simply means that it exerts your arm muscles in a different way. If you want to save even more money and have no need for arm attachments on your elliptical, you can opt for a Stamina InMotion E-1000 Elliptical Trainer instead. This elliptical could be challenging for those of you who don’t have the gift of balance. However, you can use this device in a seated position and gradually build yourself up to a standing position. Regardless, this can be used sitting in an office chair while you study. Studies show that exercising while you study or shortly afterward can aid your memory in retaining learning material. Exercise Mat Gym mats can come in all shapes and size, but it’s important that you find one that fits your home gym’s area and your fondness. After all, you will spend a lot of time on your exercise mat stretching, kneeling, jumping and everything, so it’s important that you find a mat that is comfortable. Even though extra thick exercise mats are often more expensive, spending the extra cash on a cushiony mat will help protect your joints during a rigorous workout. Personally, my favorite workout mat is the HemingWeigh Extra Thick Foam Exercise Mat, because I focus my workouts primarily on my abdominal muscles. The aforementioned mat, as well as other extra thick foam exercise and yoga mats, help prevent damage to your joints, ligaments, and tendons. Medicine Balls A medicine ball is a rather versatile piece of equipment. You can use them to help build up resistance during lunges, squats, sit-ups, Russian twists, and much more. Medicine balls can be made from soft or hard material and they range in weight, which means there is a perfect one for nearly everyone’s preferences and needs. If you don’t know which size to purchase, you could always just ask your relatives to get you an entire set for your upcoming birthday. How could they say no when you’re trying to improve your health and strength? Miscellaneous Sometimes, you can use objects that aren’t intended for exercise. For example, you can use a stationary chair in your exercise routine to complete a few reps of abdominal lifts, chair squats, or curls. Jump rope is also an entertaining tool for some aerobic exercise, and it’s extremely inexpensive. You might annoy your downstairs neighbor, but I’m sure they’ll understand that you’re jumping rope for your own health. Other than the equipment that is mentioned above, there are hundreds of items that you can include in your home gym. Before you invest in copious exercise equipment, research what routines you are comfortable with and what equipment you are comfortable using on your own or with minimal supervision. Because you will be putting your home gym to good use, it’s crucial that you know how to use your equipment beforehand so that you don’t cause any harm to yourself. A lot of university gyms offer free or discounted training services to either learn how to do a workout routine and/or learn about difference exercise equipment. Otherwise, ask one of your friends majoring in kinesiology or exercise science to help you learn about new routines and equipment.

How to land a teaching job in Spain

How to land a teaching job in Spain If you’ve ever thought about teaching abroad in Europe, then it’s more than likely that teaching English in Spain has crossed your mind. It’s got a booming ESL industry and teachers flock there in search of day time naps and sangria. We’re sure there are other incentives, but day time naps, how could you not? Siestas and sangria aren’t all Spain has to offer - it’s a soccer-mad country, where if you don’t already love futbol, you soon will. That’s not to say that teaching English in Spain is going to be the same regardless of where you go. In fact, you’ll find very different reports from ESL teachers across the country. From quiet country towns to bustling cities like Madrid and Barcelona, there are all sorts of lifestyles on offer (don’t worry, the naps are always included). Whether you’re looking for a quiet beachside escape from it all or a town with a little more swagger, you’ll find a school that suits you. The people are friendly, the food is beyond delicious, and the scenery is spectacular (seriously, I just wasted 10 minutes of my life gawking at stock photos, thinking maybe I should be in Spain!) So how do I get a job, Google isn’t much help here? The reason that Google doesn’t throw up a bajillion jobs for teaching English in Spain is that they’re not usually listed online. It’s a very different culture to what you might be used to and unlike schools in other countries, Spanish schools tend to hire on the spot. As in, you walk right up to the school and present them with your resume. If pavement pounding isn’t your thing, teaching ESL in Spain may not be for you. It’s certainly not for the faint of heart, and unless you’ve got enough gumption to land (not necessarily on your feet) and roll with it… then we suggest somewhere a bit less spur of the moment. There’s a lot of competition and enough English speakers seem to show up and wing it, that they haven’t had to start mass TEFL teacher recruiting online. That being said… it’s a small amount of initial discomfort for a life that includes daytime naps. What kind of ESL jobs do they have? There are three main categories of jobs and plenty of options. I’ve done a round-up below to make it pretty straight forward for you. The most common way to teach English in Spain is probably to approach a private academy once you land! 1. Openings at private schools and language academies Private schools are a legitimate way to go about landing an English teaching job in Spain. You will lead your own classroom and be able to find a full-time job that offers a good salary, benefits and even paid vacation. Ehm, yes, please! Sadly, you need to be in Spain to get these jobs. The bright side of that is this: you can start with where you want to live and figure the rest out once you land. You’ll have the flexibility of trying the city out before you knock on a school’s door and sign a year-long contract. It does mean that you should probably have some savings if you plan to teach English in Spain. At least to tide you over until the first pay cheque. Do you have a TEFL/CELTA/TESOL? Then you should land one of these types of jobs easy peasy. If you don’t have one of these teaching certificates- maybe consider getting a TEFL before you do anything else. Not only will it arm you for the classroom. It will answer pretty pressing questions like - how do I make this rowdy mob of Spanish kids speak English? Sign up to Teach Away today for access to the latest teaching jobs around the world. 2. Language and Cultural Assistant jobs (aka Auxiliares de conversación) Becoming a Language and Cultural assistant is probably the least terrifying way of securing a job teaching English in Spain. Hours are pretty light with teachers only working about 12-16 hours per week so you won’t make as much as you would in a private school. Actually, you’ll make considerably less, pocketing between $790 - 1,100, which is enough to survive in a country with a low cost of living. Let’s just say you won’t be indulging in tapas every night of the week. The requirements include a TEFL certificate and to be enrolled in a four-year degree program. This is a perfect gap-year option for those of you who want to have a year in Spain and experience the lifestyle! The program looks for residents from any of the following countries: any EU country, the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia or China. For more information on teaching English in Spain this way - check out the program’s official website. 3. Private tutoring gigs Spanish families are always recruiting private English tutors to either improve their business English skills or to get their little ones up to scratch. They’re not really looking for your traditional teacher and tend to just want to invest in a more immersive way of learning. This can be in their homes or at a café. Some families will hire a live-in teacher to be on-hand to give private lessons to their children several times a week! Kind of like an au pair but without the diaper changing (although, you might end up with a job that’s more au pair than private tutor - ??be careful!) This is a fabulous way to wheedle your into an authentic Spanish lifestyle and is also probably the quickest route to culture shock. Think about those big family meals and paella… Why not check out this this teacher’s story on what it’s like living and teaching English in Spain? Okay, so hit me with the requirements for teaching Englis in Spain These can vary - some schools will want a licensed teacher and teaching experience, but most are just looking for the following: ??A college degree A TEFL certification ??Native English speaking proficiency Bonus points and muchos opportunities if…puedes hablar un poco de español! What about some cold hard cash? Show me the money! As we’ve mentioned, Language and Cultural Assistants are likely to make between $790 - 1,100 USD a month. If you keep your expenses low and travel cheaply, this is still plenty of money to fund a decent lifestyle in Spain. Private tutoring will depend on how many hours you take and is pretty variable. It tends to be without a contract. The best option, if you’re concerned about money, is private academies. Here you will have benefits, paid holidays and a comfy wage of between $1,300 - 2,000 per month. Note that the higher end of this scale will probably go to teachers with lots of experience. Even though you will be making money, we do not recommend landing in Spain flat broke. Save a little first, that way the first month of job hunting won’t be quite so terrifying. Also, seeing as we’re talking cash, budget airlines and railway tickets are a great way to get around Europe, and Spain is perfectly located for a little interrailing. So why not plan a few weekends in Germany, Portugal, or well, anywhere really… When’s the best time to look for a job? That really depends what sort of job you’re interested in. The government-run programs generally have a spring application (which you can do in your home country) with a start date of the following fall. As for private academies - you will probably get lucky any time of year. That being said, the peak times are September, October and January (the beginning of the school semesters) and there’s bound to be more options around then.

Eat Your Sunscreen Alternative Sun Protection

Eat Your Sunscreen Alternative Sun Protection Photo courtesy of Pixabay Despite the common advice to lather on the sunscreen before going outside (or to just avoid going outdoors altogether), instances of skin cancer are on the rise, and the number isnt minuscule. Cases of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, are steadily climbing at 3.1 percent annually, while other forms are jointing the race at a quick 4.2 percent. In fact, skin cancer rates have exploded upward by 77 percent between 1992 and 2006an ironic increase, when we look at the constant push for more sunscreen and less sun exposure. What could possibly be the cause of this increase, despite our ever-increasing safety measures against the sun? It seems individuals have long since forgotten that the sun brings life to our planet; it feeds our plants, warms our bodies and synthesizes vitamin D (which in turn can relieve fibromyalgia pain, treat skin diseases such as psoriasis, promote wound healing, and regulate body temperature) among a host of other necessary functions. According to Mercola.com,  Solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been used since ancient times to treat various diseases. This has a scientific background in the fact that a large number of molecules (chromophores) in different layers of the skin interacts with and absorbs UV. To reiterate this idea, the rays from the sun were also used as a standard treatment for tuberculosis before the advent of antibiotics. Surely this cant be the sun were talking about? Its downright dangerous, is a common claim among religious sunscreen-wearers. However, there is a problem with this reasoning, and it lies behind its beneficiaries: sunscreen companies. Sunscreen may be touted as a miracle must-have, yet the ingredients found in nearly all commercial brands could rival the damaging effects of a solar flare on our skin. According to Arthur W. Perry, MD, FACS: Chemical sunscreens don’t sit on the surface of the skin â€" they soak into it and quickly find their way into the bloodstream. They scatter all over the body without being detoxified by the liver and can be detected in blood, urine, and breast milk for up to two days after a single application. That would be just fine if they were uniformly safe â€" but they’re not. Perry reveals that 9 of the 15 chemical sunscreens are considered endocrine disrupters. Endocrine disrupters are chemicals that interfere with hormones, namely estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and thyroid hormones. These chemicals found in sunscreens can cause abnormal development of fetuses and growing children, early puberty and premature breast development in girls, and small and undescended testicles in boys, and contribute to development of breast and ovarian cancers in women and prostate cancers in men. Common singular ingredients found in commercial brands can have specific effects as well. Retinyl Palmitate showed in a 2009 study released by the National Toxicology Program to speed the development of skin tumors and lesions when exposed to sunlight (and by speed we mean a 21 percent faster development of lesions and tumors). In addition, oxybenzone acts as  a hormone disrupter, while the chemical fragrances that makes sunscreen smell like the beach have been linked to organ toxicity and immunotoxicity by the Environmental Working Group  (EWG). To be clear, brands using the harmful ingredients listed above include  Aveeno, Banana Boat, Coppertone Sport, Coppertone Water Babies, Bull Frog, Neutrogena, Store brands (CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens), and Hawaiian Tropic, among others, and have been rated as dangerous by the EWG. So what should we do before spending a day at the beach or on a boat without sunscreen? Luckily, there are natural alternatives to sun protection that dont involve slathering on sunscreenones that work with our bodies rather than against them  (and they taste good, too). Tomatoes Tomatoes are bursting with the antioxidant  lycopene, which has shown to protect against too much UV radiation. In fact, according to a study  published in the  Journal of British Dermatology, 20 healthy women who ate a quarter cup of tomato paste in olive oil every day for three months were more protected against sunburn than those who consumed olive oil alone. Enjoy a cup-full for maximum benefits. Almonds and Other Seeds Almonds and sunflower seeds contain hefty doses of vitamin E, another powerful antioxidant that acts as a skin-protector. Be sure to add a few sprinkles to salads or smoothies in your daily diet. Apples Specifically, the skins of apples; a 2007 study at Cornell University showed the red skin of Red Delicious apples contains  triterpenoids, which blocked or killed cancer cells in lab studies. Green Tea Catechin compounds in green tea protect against solar radiation, while the its tannic acid content can be used to soothe sunburns. Drink two cups a day as a preventative or apply two teabags soaked in cold water to a sunburned area. Pomegranate Research at the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at Texas AM University showed that the ellagic acid found in pomegranates helps reduce UVA and UVA-induced cell damage. Organic Sunscreen The sunscreens listed below are free  of  Parabens, Phthalates, PEG’s (polyethylene glycols), Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, SLS/SLES, Oxybenzone, and a host of other chemicals found in popular sunscreens, and instead use mineral sun-protectants such as Zinc Oxide. Badger All-Natural Sunscreens ECO FORMULA SPF 30+ by Raw Elements Poofy Naturals The Sunscreen Other options include wearing hats or clothing as a barrier, or finding intermittent shade if you plan on being outdoors for long periods of time. Remember, however, that it takes roughly fifteen minutes of direct sun exposure to synthesize the required daily amount of vitamin D (one of the leading vitamin deficiencies in the U.S.), so it would be prudent to go outdoors for short periods without sunscreen in order to reap the benefits. Without the sun, we would be without nourishment; without a planet capable of supporting life. For thousands of years humans have bathed in the suns rays, worked under its light and hailed its healing powers. Knowing this, what can we say is more likely to cause harm to humans? A life-giving source that has sustained life for millions of years or an unnatural bottled chemical concoction that exacerbates conditions previously rare before their advent?

Funny Chemistry Tees: What You Should Know About These

Funny Chemistry Tees: What You Should Know About TheseHumorous shirts for ladies are sometimes made out of materials that make them fashionable, but not necessarily be in your favor. While you may think that they are trendy, most of the materials used in the manufacturing of these shirts are materials that simply take the shirts from being fashionable to just plain embarrassing. This is why it is crucial to purchase a shirt that is properly made out of materials that can stand up to the test of time and continue to be fashionable even after many years.Funny Chemistry designs are generally made out of polyester, which is a great material for shirts. Polyester is available in a wide variety of materials, from nylon to acetate, and is one of the least expensive materials you can find in the market. The other materials, like polypropylene, can be much more expensive, as they require more processing to turn them into clothes that you will wear everyday.Polyester offers some advantages ove r other types of fabrics. Firstly, because of its resilience and flexibility, polyester is very suitable for use in shirts. Secondly, polyester is also very durable, which means that the material can last long despite the fact that you wear it everyday. Furthermore, polyester has excellent breathability, making it an ideal material for shirts. The downside of polyester is that it cannot be machine washed or dried, which makes it less practical than other fabrics. For instance, a designer's shirt that uses an organic material such as polyester may have more durability, but may cost a lot more than other shirts. However, there are special washable fabrics that can help you get a shirt that is both durable and highly fashionable at the same time.Another disadvantage of polyester is that it tends to be prone to warping. You can expect this to happen to polyester shirts. However, you can prevent this from happening by keeping your shirts in airtight containers or keeping them dry, as it i s more likely to develop warping when the material is exposed to moisture.A lot of women prefer to wear cotton, even though cotton is more durable than polyester. However, cotton is more delicate and needs to be ironed to make it retain its shape. Some people prefer cotton shirts, but this is primarily because of their tendency to fade more easily.Keep in mind that not all shirts made with funny chemistry materials are going to be weak in quality. However, the material is not particularly well-liked by most women, so if you do want to wear one, you might have to compromise on the design and the material to make it fashionable.

What Is Capillary Action in Chemistry?

What Is Capillary Action in Chemistry? What is Capillary Action? By definition, capillary action is the movement of molecules between two surfaces through a fluid. In its simplest form, it is the creation of new channels of fluid by reversing the flow of molecules across a membrane. There are several types of mixtures. When two different chemicals are mixed, they create a separate solution for each component. The most common type of mixtures is that of water and alcohol. The ingredients of this mixture are a base and an alcohol. The water is allowed to cool. As the solution cools, the alcohol evaporates into a solid. This liquid is then mixed with the base to create a thick liquid that is called water. There are many different types of mixtures; the most common being oil and water. This involves mixing a petroleum based oil with water. Other examples of mixtures include natural gas and oil.A reaction can be a chemical reaction or a physical reaction. Chemical reactions take place when mo lecules of one chemical to react with those of another. These reactions are characterized by the movement of electrons in pairs and the production of energy. Physical reactions, on the other hand, occur when atoms or ions collide and form compounds. For example, a reaction will occur when potassium reacts with water.A chemical reaction can take place at any place on a molecule and at any time in the process. This makes it possible for a chemical reaction to occur in the absence of oxygen in water and other liquids.Even more importantly, the chemical reaction of a certain compound gives rise to the exact conditions required for the formation of the compound.
